Your family and the Espinosa’s were spending some time together this weekend, and your father had thought that a beach day would be perfect. You were all going to be meeting there, and you still had yet to wake up. “(y/n)! Time to wake up!” You groaned, throwing the covers back and went to your bathroom, starting your morning routine. After finishing, you stepped back into your room, changing into your bikini, shorts, and white lace top. You took a floppy black hat, placing it on your head and walking out of your room, going downstairs. “I’m ready,” you said as you took a slice of toast that was sitting on the counter. You grabbed an orange, peeling it and splitting it apart as your father rushed you and your sister into the car. The three of you were in the car and ready to go. Your dad sped down the road as you plugged in your phone, blasting some oldies from the Beach Boys, perfect for the day ahead. You, your father, and your sister were all singing along while you neared the beach, having so much fun until the time you parked into a stall. You found a spot after practically running towards the sand, watching your family follow behind. Your father texted Matt’s parents, telling them the exact place they could meet up with you. You stripped of your top layers, leaving you only in your blue bikini. Your sunglasses were perched on your face as you felt the sun vanish from your skin. You looked up, “Dyl!” You rose from your spot, hugging Dylan Espinosa as tight as you could. “(y/n)!” You and Dylan had coached powder puff and flag football two years before and became very close. Then, he left for college. You had matured over the two years. The day was sort of a reunion for you four kids. You and Dylan set up ‘camp’ as you two called it. You both were talking about anything and everything before Matt even recognized you again. "(y/n)?" You looked up from your spot, putting down your smoothie and standing up, wrapping him up in a huge hug. "I missed you, not so small fry." He had always been a significant amount shorter than you, but he was older. You always teased him about it. But now, after two years, he was taller than you’d ever seen. "Let’s get a picture of the two of you! Reunited!" Your father yelled behind you. Matt turned you around, holding your waist tightly, pulling you into his side. You smiled for the camera, your hair hanging over your shoulders. Your dad showed Matt’s as the two of you pulled away; you told Matt to set up his towel next to you and Dylan’s, seeing as your sister found her friends and left you alone. "So, small fry, what have you been up to lately?" Dylan handed you your smoothie; you held it and took a sip. Matt settled onto his towel, turning to you. He had noticed your new maturity, admiring you like you were freshwater pearls shining in the sun. He was captivated by you. "Earth to Matt," you waved your hand in front of his face. He snapped back into reality. He told you what he was doing with his life at this point, and just went back to staring. You and Dylan started reminiscing about the old times again, making you laugh like there was no tomorrow. Matt just watched. He was memorizing every curve of your body, making sure he never forgot this moment. Dylan pulled you up suddenly, hooking you over his shoulder and dragging you over to the water. He tossed you in, earning a scream from you. Your head popped up out of the water as Matt joined you two at the shore. "I’m going to decapitate you, Espinosa!" You ran out of the water and towards Dylan, watching as he sprinted away. You turned to Matt, "He’ll be gone. So we can have some quality time." Matt’s eyes sparkled at the sound of you and him. Alone. He took your hand and led you into the water slowly. You let the cold water surround you, wading in it for a little bit. Matt started to float on his back, "Have you ever thought about what it would be like if you and Dylan got together? Officially?" You were appalled at his question. "I don’t think that’s ever going to happen, Matt." You reassured him the best you could. Dylan and you were just friends. Matt got back onto his feet. "Good. I just needed to know that." He smiled at you, walking out of the water and leaving you alone. You stood there, confused. You followed him, about to call out but you were stopped by your father. "(y/n)! We’re going to go get some lunch, now. Get your clothes on." You followed his orders, but Matt was already walking away from you. You dried off quickly, pulling on your clothes and catching up with him. "What did you mean by that?" You were holding your flip flops, throwing them in the back of your dad’s truck and getting in the bed. Dylan and his father were riding in the Espinosa’s car while your sister, father, Matt and yourself were going in your car. You and Matt sat in the bed of the truck, opting for the fresh air. Matt shrugged, mumbling something under his breath. You looked at him quizzically. “What was that?” He cleared his throat. “I’ve always liked you, and I didn’t want him taking you.” Your gaze was transfixed on Matt. He liked you? “You do?” He nodded. “Ever since he brought you home after one of the practices for football, I started to like you.” You were shocked. You never thought Matt would have liked you. You leaned back on the bed, crossing your arms and grinning to yourself. “Well, that’s good, Espinosa.” Your hair whipped around as you were riding down the street to the restaurant. He questioned you, “Why?” You grinned, crawling across the bed to him, kissing him on the cheek. “Because, I like you, too.” |
